Quilts of Valor

Kathryn has made another Quilt of Valor. This one was made for Bill Gagnon from Sebastian, Florida. She gifted this quilt to Bill on April 26, 2019 in honor of his faithful service to our country. The banner of the eagle was chosen for him because of his love for nature and the dignity he has exemplified throughout his life.

This Quilt of Honor was given to Wayne Gehrke on March 13, 2018 in Sebastian, Florida. He served with honor in Viet Nam.

This picture tells a story. The central part of the story is the brave soldier on the far right, Mike Jackway who served two terms in Viet Nam. He is a warm, loving person, so when I chose the fabric for the quilt, I wanted to make sure I found the warmest and the most vibrant colors. I finished the design, sewed on the back and then, the quilt was sent to Texas to a long arm quilter. She expertly quilted the fabrics together.

When the quilt returned, I bound the edges and scheduled a time for the presentation. Mike, the guest of honor and his girlfriend, Debbie came the morning of May 6, 2017. Devon and Tina came from the Sebastian QOV group and gave the heartfelt presentation. The most moving words were said by Devon: “Welcome home, soldier.” We all cried tears of appreciation for Mike’s service to our country and for his safe return.

In the picture from l. to r.: Jim, my husband, Kathryn, Debbie and Mike.
